Last Wednesday, January 18, the first Discussion on Tourism "Tourism Diagnosis of Magdalena de Cao" was held in the Town Hall of the locality and was attended by various actors, both public and private, from the tourism sector.
The purpose of this initiative was to analyze the tourism situation of Magdalena de Cao and to address different measures to be taken in favor of improving the quality of experience provided to tourists and visitors.
During the opening presentation, conducted by the Director of Operations of the El Brujo Archaeological Complex (CAEB), Alex Tocto, he described the work done by the Wiese Foundation through its 4 programs and projects. Subsequently, Jhoselyn Gonzales, Tourism Coordinator of CAEB, mentioned the importance of identifying and recognizing the role played by each of the actors within the tourism ecosystem and its impact on the experience of visitors.
During the event, the participants also put into practice the implementation of diagnostic tools such as problem trees and goal trees, in order to strengths and opportunities for improvement.
At the close of the event, Mg. Martín Orbe, Manager of Local Development and Public Services in the District Municipality of Poroto, Trujillo, presented his work on raising awareness about caring for the cultural heritage in Marcahuamachuco, an Archaeological Complex of pre-Inca architectural constructions, and he highlighted the importance of this type of venue to improve joint work in the sector.
The discussion was mainly aimed at tourism service providers, associations and artisans of Magdalena de Cao. Among the attendees we had the textile craft associations "Dama de Cao" and "Weaving Hands". We also have the presence of renowned local artisans such as Lucho Iparraguirre, specialized in wood crafts, and Luis Gabriel Chuquipoma and son, specialists in basketry and wood; as well as Flor Córdova, representative of the women who make the renowned One-Year Chicha of Magdalena de Cao, a drink made with maize since the time of Los Mochica.
On the side of tourism service providers, representatives of local restaurants and a transport company participated; while, on the part of the public sector, we had the presence of the recently elected mayor, Edgar Galarreta and his councilors.
We thank the District Municipality of Magdalena de Cao for providing their facilities to carry out this important event and all those who made it possible. Let's continue working for the improvement of tourism in our community!
