Since 1977, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has been organizing annually the International Museum Day, an event of great importance for the global museum community. Celebrated every May 18, this event highlights the importance of museums as fundamental pillars of cultural exchange, research, as well as the respect for cultural differences.
Every year, this celebration has a special topic, and this year 2024 the theme selected has been "Museums for education and research", which highlights the role of these spaces as part of the educational process and in the advancement of knowledge through research. In turn, the celebration of 2024, as in previous years, also supports a specific group of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). On this occasion, the events organized as part of the celebration focus on:
1. Guaranteeing quality education.
2. Building solid and sustainable structures, while also promoting inclusive industrialization, as well as research, innovation and technological development.
As part of the celebrations for International Museum Day, at the El Brujo Archaeological Complex we have prepared a thematic exhibition entitled "The journey of archaeological knowledge: Exploring educational paths", which will be conducted by our team of specialists from the Research and Tourism Promotion directorates.
This exhibition will take place next Saturday, May 18, as part of a series of activities designed to celebrate this day and promote culture through public visits to our site museum.
The proposal includes a thematic exhibition at the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, which seeks to bring archaeological knowledge closer to both the community and the classrooms. In this exhibition, we will explore the origin of archaeological research and how it is later transferred to the educational field, enriching learning with artistic expressions.
The exhibition consists of four panels, each addressing fundamental aspects of the archaeological world and its relationship with education and culture. The first panel serves as a general introduction, providing an overview of the evolution of museums as educational institutions. The next three panels delve into specific areas: archaeological research, cultural management, and education. These panels explore topics such as the research process at archaeological sites, the importance of connecting education with cultural heritage, and how historical memory is fostered through art. Each panel offers a detailed and insightful look that highlights the intersection between archaeology, education, and cultural management, providing an enriching experience for visitors.
All visitors who enter El Brujo on Saturday, May 18, will be able to enjoy the exhibition presented by our team of specialists, which will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the courtyard of the site museum. Also, for those who cannot attend on this date, the exhibition will remain open for those interested, until May 25.
